BEATING BERLUSCONI!
2 March 2010
Turf Love presents Beating Berlusconi!
Based on the now famous true story of a real Liverpool fan, Mark Radley, who ended up sitting next to Silvio Berlusconi at the Attaturk Stadium.
Despite threats from his wife and bank manager, in May 2005 middle-aged Kenny Noonan travels to Istanbul to watch Liverpool play AC Milan in the Champions’ League final. He carries the scars of thirty years as a Red - Heysel, Hillsborough, Alex Ferguson - and of living in a city which has been demonised. What happened to Liverpool FC in the second half is legend. What happened to Kenny in the AC Milan Directors’ box is stranger than fiction.
Written by John Graham Davies [Canadian National Theater, BBC Radio 4]
Directed by Matt Rutter [Big Wow, Spike Theatre]
Designed by Mike White [Rejects Revenge, Spike, Lip Service]
and starring Paul Duckworth [Ringo in BACKBEAT]
Fresh from ecstatic reviews and a huge word-of-mouth following in 2009, Paul Duckworth and his forty characters take to the road again in this hilarious, lump in your throat comedy.
Using the fortunes of Liverpool FC as a metaphor for broader concerns, John Graham Davies’ comedy examines love, identity and friendship, and touches on a number of contemporary political issues.
Writer John Graham Davies can certainly hit a punch line. This play isn’t just based on a true story. It’s based on thousands LIVERPOOL POST
I thought the play was astonishing. Beautiful and illuminating. I wish I had written it! Paul Duckworth is utterly amazing Award winning playwright ESTHER WILSON [Ten Tiny Toes, Unprotected]
Mesmerising…hilarious scattergun scenes. Duckworth is outstanding. The gags flowed all evening LIVERPOOL ECHO
The atmosphere was infectious…we left the theatre uplifted LS MEDIA

THE VIEW - live **SOLD OUT**
5 March 2010
DF Concerts Present THE VIEW
Please note this event has now SOLD OUT! There are no more tickets available
One of the most exciting and on-the-edge bands of recent years, The View emerged in late 2006, releasing their debut album, 'Hats Off To The Buskers' in early ’07. A whirlwind of destruction and great tunes, The View embodied all that is vital about rock ‘n’ roll, with their debut album selling in excess of 300,000 copies.
Decamping to rural Wales in the early summer of ’08 with producer Owen Morris [perhaps the only man able to not only channel their schizophrenic ideas & plans but also to simply keep up with them] they set to work on their second album, ‘Which Bitch’. The record will perhaps come as a bit of a shock for those expecting a re-run of the 1st album’s infectious collection of tracks; still heavy on the joyful rush that made their debut so exciting, the album also weaves its way from rip-roaring heads-down boogie to Tayside sea-shanties via moments of real beauty.

VOLUME! feat EL-B & Neil Landstrumm
5 March 2010
On Point Productions present ... Volume! featuring EL-B [Ghost Records/Tempa] & Neil Landstrumm [Scandinavia/Planet Mu]
Volume! presents two heavyweight musical pioneers ....
EL-B [Ghost Records/Tempa] - http://www.myspace.com/ghostrecordings
El-B originally made his name as part of the legendary Groove Chronicles outfit, being the first artist to bring a dark edge to UK Garage. He pioneered alongside greats such as MJ Cole, Wookie & Zed Bias & is famed for his label “Ghost”, comprising EL-B, J da Flex & Roxy. With Tempa re-issuing some of his finest productions to date, El-B announced his return to the forefront of dubstep and garage and is one of the most in demand DJs in the scene. El-B has sculpted and defined the modern dubstep sound and famously inspired the prodigious talent of Burial.
Neil Landstrumm [Scandinavia/Planet Mu] - http://www.myspace.com/neillandstrumm
Destroying dancefloors across the globe for over a decade, Neil Landstrumm is one of the most respected artists in the UK electronic music scene. His first album for Planet Mu "Restaurant of Assassins" saw Landstrumm hijacking varied influences from techno, dubstep, garage and breaks as well as vintage 90s rave and Sheffield sounds. BIG N BASHY feat Jammer & DJ Magic
13 March 2010
Two special guest DJs visit the Bongo HQ tonight at Big N Bashy, one the hottest nights to hit Edinburgh’s Saturday night club scene in recent years, which has already gained a steady and loyal following amongst Edinburgh’s clubbers for its up-to-the-minute, bass-heavy sounds.
... JAMMER ... [Big Dada / Boy Better Know / Jahmek the World]
One of the true originals of the grime scene - both as an MC and a producer - Jammer nearly signed with the Big Dada records label two years ago. After a series of acclaimed mixtapes [the 'Are You Dumb' series], Jammer's first full album is scheduled for May 2010, following the massive club hit single, "Party Animal".
Part of the infamous Boy Better Know crew featuring Skepta, JME, Wiley, Shortie, Frisco alongside DJ Maximum, Boy Better Know have been instrumental in bringing back the party vibes and energy back to the grime scene with recent release 'Too Many Man' alongside recent offering 'Going In'.
The creator of the 'Lord Of The Mics' series of grime dvds, Jammer paved the way for a million copycats biting the battle dvd format of two mcs going head head with set rounds and launched the careers of countless MCs.
Probably the loudest man in grime, Jammer has also been one of the scene's most subtle producers since the start.
For someone so outgoing on the mic, he's also discreet about his business - while half the grime scene seems obsessed with making chart-friendly electro [for both good and bad], there's been very few mentions of the excellent funky productions Jammer's been quietley making. But of course, Jammer's most memorable when he's outlandish, and his recent soca-heavy, Notting Hill Carnival-friendly single with Badness and Silverlink, 'The Message is Love', was last summer's equivalent of 'Murkle Man' or Skepta's 'Stageshow' Riddim"
Known as one of the most energetic and fun grime artists to grace the stage with a stage presence and crazy energy many would give their right eye for this ... Big n Bashy is gonnna be BIG !!!

DJ MAGIC [No Hats No Hoods / Dirty Canvas]
DJ Magic is resident DJ at London's only regular grime night Dirty Canvas in Camden and can be heard on React FM playing the hottest grime in town. He's also a founder of one of the only grime record labels to actually be releasing vinyl in this age: No Hats No Hoods [a name which refers to the door policy of some night clubs], which has released future classics by well known artists in the scene as well as up and coming stars.
One of Magic's latest releases being his own mix CD: No Hats No Hoods Volume One, a CD that includes exclusive tracks and older label classics from P Money, Tempa T, Jammer, Ruff Sqwad, Skepta and Lee Brasco shows his standing within the grime scene in the amount of one away dubs he has on the CD.
Responsible for signing 2008/2009s' biggest grime single: Tempa T's next Hype, DJ Magic knows how to rock a crowd as last years appearance with Tempa T proved when he tore the roof off the Bongo club in early 2008, you have been warned !

THE DOORS ALIVE event rescheduled: new date 15 May
20 March 2010
The Doors Alive - the No.1 tribute band to the legendary sixties, Californian rock guru's The Doors
The Doors Alive! gig scheduled for the 20th March has had to be postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
The band have given this reason as: “We have been given an offer to play in the France on a huge festival to about 50,000 people. This decision has not been influenced by money but concerns the band’s future and potential recognition we could gain in Europe through doing this”.

HEADSPIN feat DJ Format
20 March 2010
A four-deck mix of beats, funk, hiphop, house and more, with live percussion
Headspin favourite DJ Format joins us tonight for what promises to be another funk-fuelled sonic onslaught. Fresh from his work as one half of The Simonsound, who had a big tune recently with their 'Tour de Mars' version of Kraftwerk's classic tune about that French bike race. Format has also been working away on his own new album after a setback which saw him lose everything he had done when it was almost complete and having to start all over again.
Meanwhile the Headspin residents still manage to winkle out the best selection of up-front party tunes there is to be found. Now one of the longest-lasting clubs this city has ever seen - and still going strong - just what is the Headspin secret? Look no further than damn good tunes, sick skills and knowing what you want to hear, before you know

DEVIL DISCO CLUB feat Giles Walker & Nevada Base
26 March 2010
Trouble is back 'n' black!
Following another scorcher to kick off the year with Findo Gask at the Bongo Club on Friday 29th January, Trouble's Devil Disco Club has hit the ground running in 2010 and is on a proper roll just now. With wee Kris Wasabi off on his South American travels until summer, the Trouble DJs have invited Aberdonian Troublemaker Giles Walker [Snafu, Origin] down to help plug the gap tonight.
Giles is one of a number of Aberdonian DJs to have hosted the Trouble DJs on tour in Aberdeen's notorious SNAFU nightclub [at his own Mixtape night] and he's also one of the best DJs we've worked with in Scotland, so this sees Trouble's cap graciously doffed in return. Giles will be headlining. More info below.
Performing live are Glasgow's hot-to-trot Nevada Base, who have been creating a royal stir in their city's live music scene and, bearing more than a passing resemblance to Edinburgh stars XVectors, look and sound every bit like the perfect Devil Disco Club live outfit. More info below.
Kris Wasabi will be back in July, but Trouble is sad to announce the full departure of Nick Yuill from the fledgling DDC DJ fold. Nick's bowing out to focus on his studio production work and will be replaced by Simon Eilbeck, aka Simonotron [Club For Heroes]. Club For Heroes has caused no small fuss among those in the know with residencies at Edinburgh's Wee Red Bar and GRV over the last two years and so Simon should fill Nick's shoes admirably.
See below for much more info on all the acts, plus links to sample [and download!] the sounds of the Devil Disco Club DJs for yourself.
ABOUT
The Devil Disco Club is about going back to basics, embracing your dark side and letting it all hang out. It's about listening to some of the most exciting new dance music out there alongside the classics and it's about checking out a buzzing new live act that will move your feet and engage your mind. It's about doing all of this alongside some of your favourite people in one of your favourite venues: the Bongo Club.
Music: soul, rap, disco, boogie, italo, electro-funk & proto-house: re-edits, remixes, extended versions etc
Resident DJs:
Hobbes & Erik d'Viking [Trouble DJs, getintotrouble.com]
Simonotron [Club For Heroes]
Kris Wasabi [Wasbi Disco] <gone Mexican - back in July>

NEVADA BASE
Nevada Base are a Glasgow-based electro-pop band made up of Albert [vocals, guitar], Andy [bass, guitar, vocals], Gus [synthesisers, vocals] and Jay [synthesisers, drum machines and “more cowbell”]. They formed in August 2008 and played their first show in October that year.
The music is inspired by the usual songwriting suspects [need we list giants like the Beatles or the Smiths?] with sounds adapted from 80s synthpop – Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order – and, of course, Kraftwerk. References have also been made to the likes of Talking Heads, the Cure, Joy Division and Gang of Four. Recently, notions of early 80s Italo Disco, early 90s sampling mayhem and even elements of late 90s trance have crept in, almost by surprise. We share a potent fondness for local DJ superheroes Optimo as well as anything touched by DFA Records. And the occasional hint of [good] dubstep.
The songs are about noise-control officers, mental illness, robotics, geographical obstacles, mysterious women from space, electricity, love and the importance (or otherwise) of timeliness. The end result is about making heartfelt, thoughtful - danceable - pop; aspiring to that noble goal of music both for the head and the feet. However, if this leaves you confused as to whether you should dance or think, then just dance.
The band supported LATE OF THE PIER at PINUP NIGHTS in January and are supporting FENECH SOLER at King Tuts in February...

SIMONOTRON (CLUB FOR HEROES)
Simonotron is on a neverending mission to blow minds and move feet through the power of his heavy disco sounds. After spending several years playing underground parties in central Scotland, where he was affectionately known as 'the Larry Levan of Stirling' Simonotron came to Edinburgh in 2004 and has been rocking the capital ever since. People really started taking notice when Simon played regular guest slots at the debauched Glaswegian queer disco Utter Gutter, which inspired him to start the much-loved Club For Heroes in Edinburgh in 2008. The open-minded music policy and mixed crowd of beatniks, homos, geeks, ravers and goths attracted guest DJs from clubs such as Optimo, Death Disco and Melting Pot. Simon doesn't limit himself to one style of music, and his definition of "disco" is basically anything that makes him want to dance. Kick-drums, high-hats and hand-claps rule the Simonotron school. His sets are a wild sonic spectrum of gay high-NRG, acid house, electro, and left-field pop classics, mixed together in a way that always makes perfect sense on the dancefloor.

Espousing a broad music policy at Trouble, that's simply 'future-retro', Trouble DJs know exactly how to rock the party and always recognise a good groove when they hear one, no matter what musical pigeon-hole people are stuffing it into this week. Hobbes is also one half of the brains behind Limbo (and the Limbo Live compilations), which was recently described as 'a barometer of pop' by the press and is widely recognised as the best place to see the most exciting new bands in Scotland right now. He also somehow manages to find time for the studio and is currently completing work on a series of upcoming releases, the demos of which can be heard on his Soundcloud: http://www.soundcloud.com/hobbes
